A Higher Standard and Nickel City Pictures have begun production on Scott Waugh’s action film Runner in Queensland, Australia

Starring Alan Ritchson and Owen Wilson, filming commenced on March 31 in Brisbane and the Gold Coast.

Runner follows Hank Malone (Ritchson), a courier tasked with delivering an organ to a critically ill child, which escalates to a game of cat and mouse when external forces target the organ.

The feature is the latest project secured for Queensland through the state’s Production Attraction Strategy. It also marks the second collaboration between A Higher Standard and Nickel City Pictures in Queensland, following Bear Country, which wrapped earlier in March.

Miles Hubley and Tommy White penned the screenplay. The film is produced by Mark Fasano of Nickel City Pictures; Jeffrey Greenstein of A Higher Standard; Deborah Glover of G2 Dispatch; Todd Garner of Broken Road Productions, and Dan Spilo of Industry Entertainment.

Runner is set to generate around $20 million towards the local economy, providing jobs for nearly 90 local cast and crew during production. The film is supported by both the Australian and Queensland governments.

Other major productions filmed in Queensland this year include Anaconda, Bear Country, Fing!, Monarch: Legacy of Monsters (Season 2), Spa Weekend and Voltron.
